Add most recent and most popular threads to the Doenet homepage

It would be nice to be able to see new/popular posts on the homepage. @Charles_Nykamp

Do you mean on the homepage of doenet.org, not just community.doenet.org? It’s possible we might be able to do that, but I’d have to look into it. What are you envisioning, and why?

A number of us were discussing how to make activity on community discussions more discoverable. We deliberately minimize the default notifications; users receive an email only when a message to Announcements is posted and, I think, for a monthly summary. We don’t want people to receive a bunch of emails on topics they aren’t interested in.

However, because of that decision, someone who has not changed their notifications settings has no way of knowing about conversations on discussions unless they navigate directly to the community discussions. As going to community discussions is not part of their workflow, people mentioned that they wouldn’t typically be aware of the conversations.

Since visiting the home page was part of their workflow, they suggested having that page show a list of new or popular threads. Then they would be more likely to become aware of the discussions.

I think that is a great idea to make people more aware of the discussions and potentially drive up the involvement in these discussions.
