Curation Process machinery

Question for the Curriculum Group, or for Charles. I submitted my first problem for curation using the book-stack icon in the doenet editor.

Where does this request go? How do curators know when it comes through? Who currently on the Doenet team has curator status?

Your request goes to a “curation to-dos” page, so your problem would be seen if curators visited that page and also if there were any curators!

Which is to say: we don’t have good machinery yet (and I probably jumped the gun creating the to-do page and the book-stack button). It’s up to the curriculum group to decide what the human process of curation should be and, more broadly, what benefits we’re chasing after when we talk about “curation”.

Would people like to be marked as curators so they can take a look around the curation pages? I’m personally not convinced it’s the right system, but it’s a start.

I suspect that any working curation/peer-review/collection will have to be a natural by-product of instructors writing activities and giving feedback to each other and minimize the “extra responsibility” aspect.

Thanks Charles! I don’t expect that we’ll know what the perfect process is until we’ve gone through a few rounds of curation at least.

Benefits we’re chasing - broadly, it’s having a searchable library that instructors can trust contains only content that been solidly reviewed and is ready-for-students.

To your comment that curation has to be a natural “by-product” of instructors writing activities and giving feedback to each other. I agree up to a point; I think that we need to model and practice the appropriate process for growing this library - I don’t think the effort required is currently happening regularly enough in the sense that it can just be redirected. Like adding in appropriate testing of an individual doenet activity or tagging categories, it is a habit that needs to be cultivated among authors over time.

Bottom line - If at least some of us don’t change and formalize our process, we’ll continue to just have a junk drawer of activities that only the brave would want to search through

Charles, I will be one of the curators for the dry run.
