Doenet activities not loading in PreTeXt (sometimes)

Duane, this is a followup to the -dev thread on the PreTeXt group.

I’m still getting some behavior (seemingly random) where Doenet activities don’t load and I just a big light blue box. For example, check the Preview Activity and exercises in this section: AC Finding and using Taylor series

Many other sections load normally, but a few don’t. If I click the “pop-out” icon at the bottom of the blue box, I get perfectly fine behavior: AC

I’m using Chrome as my browser. Thoughts?

Did this start recently or has it been gong on for awhile? We just released a new version of DoenetML yesterday. (It might take a day or so to propagate.) Did that make it worse or better?

It’s roughly the same as what I was experiencing recently. Maybe the new version hasn’t quite propagated to me yet :-). I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if the issue persists. Thanks.

The issue persists. I experience the same behavior. I was just wondering if it was due to our recent changes.

The surprising result is that this bug wasn’t due to a change in either PreTeXt or DoenetML; it was a change in the behavior of Chrome 149.

I published a new dev version 0.7.21-dev.343 that should fix this. (You can set it to that version; or just use version dev and your browser will pick up the new version in a day or so.)

Thanks Duane!

I haven’t tried it with AC, yet, but I updated to this new dev version for APC, and oh my gosh! Doenet now loads super fast! It’s noticeably faster to load than it was two days ago.

I’m excited to see the effect on AC with its multiple Doenet per page.

That’s great to hear that our work in decreasing the memory footprint and speeding it up is noticeable!

We also have a way to defer the initialization of DoenetML documents until they scroll into view and then park DoenetML documents that scroll off the screen to save memory. The parking won’t happen until we change how PreTeXt works. It may start deferring the initialization already now.
