By default, do not highlight all instances of a given word; only do that after a keypress. Dark mode vs light mode highlighting colors are not the best in terms of contrast for what you actually selected vs what else matches that string.
Wouldn’t a better solution to be to fix color palette for correct contrast thresholds for both selected and other instances of the string?
That is fine too, but I would like transparent as an option to avoid visual clutter.

You can try the proposed changes by going to a document, clicking the “Settings” tab, and then scrolling down to the bottom to change the Version to 0.7dev.
